Ivan Kiernauver
Ivan Kiernauver was the King of Uldenor from 1167 to 1171 GC, following the death of his father King Constantius II. His short reign was marked by tremendous strife, nearly cultivating in a civil war involving virtually every noble house; his sudden death obviated the need for such a war, but also terminated the royal line. On the same night as his death, every known member of the House of Kiernauver also died, ending the line of Kiernov, the only royal family in Uldenor's monarchical line.
It is generally believed that his death, having no apparent cause, was an assassination by some sort of fel magic, and is attributed to Dragan Vasska, outed member of the Black Cabal and commonly known as "The Kingslayer". Few hold much resentment for this act, as Ivan's reign brought suffering to almost everyone in the realm, but the destruction of Uldenor's royal line is no small evil in the common mind either.
Ivan's awful reign is generally attributed to his lack of experience and poor training, with the blame largely placed on his Brinnish mother, who shielded him from traditional rites and tutelage, spoiling him with her foreign ways. The result: a petulant child who made for a petty tyrant of a king, obsessed with his own image and far too amused by his power.
Some consider the assassinations, and even Ivan's existence, to machinations by the Lords of Shadow, who allegedly arranged for Constantius to meet Marie, thus falling in love and rejecting his arranged marriage with Katerina Becket, a proper Uldennic noblewoman. These theories typically place the Kingslayer as a mere pawn of the Lords, manipulated into assassinating Ivan on the assumption it would lead to a better King, only to arrange their own assassinations of the rest of the family the same night. As the very existence of the Lords of Shadow is an unproven theory, these rumors are impossible to substantiate.
